At Collis Primary School, we believe Mathematics is important for a number of reasons. Mathematics provides children with a way of viewing and making sense of the world. It can be used to analyse and communicate ideas and information effectively and to tackle a range of practical tasks and real life problems.
Through our numeracy lessons, the children develop key ideas, skills and concepts. The ability to think logically and reason mathematically is key and a skill that we promote by providing regular opportunities to use and apply their mathematical knowledge through investigation and practical work. The children are grouped to ensure all abilities are working at a level to suit them – this is within their own class in the Key Stage 1 and across the Year groups in Key Stage 2.
