How are children with special needs supported?

At Collis, our aim is to meet the needs of all the children in our care, including those with special educational needs. We are very proud of our excellent SEN provision and through our programmes children make very good progress, both socially and academically.

Children’s needs are met in different ways depending on the particular need of the child concerned. For example, children may be taught in small groups for particular subjects or given individual support. Specific programmes of support are devised for the children to support their progress.

In line with the legislated Special Educational Needs Code of Practice, teachers carefully monitor and assess the children to enable them to identify special educational needs and plan appropriate support. The school works in partnership with parents and carers, the local authority and outside agencies to help children reach their full potential. Parents of all children receiving support are consulted and kept fully informed.
