Final of the Richmond Borough Football League
We arrived at the NPL Sport’s Grounds excited, but nervous. In the entire season we had never played St Stephen’s so we didn’t know how good they would be. So far,we had won all our games, scoring 37 and only letting in 9.
As we were warming up, a great number of fans arrived; many more than we had expected! Soon, the match had begun, Collis started off strongly with Ollie sending the ball millimetres wide of the post. Seconds later, Matt whipped a fantastic corner which Jake headed just wide of the mark. With ten minutes gone, Etienne replaced Ollie. Sadly, the St Stephen’s striker vollyed a beauty into the top corner. We had to admit, it was a fanastic goal – our keeper, Harrison, could just stare as the ball flew past him. We showed no sign of giving up hope as Matt charged down the wing, while twisting and turning around the defense, before blasting the ball into the box. Sadly, it flew off Etienne’s knee which skimmed the post and went out of play. After that, it was half time.
In the second half, the ball rarely got out of St Stephen’s half. With five minutes of the second half gone, Matt carved an opening and whacked the ball into the opposite bottom corner. What a goal!!! Half a minute later, Ollie blasted the ball centimetres over the bar. Luckily, it won us a corner which Euan whipped in for Matt to guide into the bottom corner. We were in the lead! If we could hold onto the lead, then the treble would be ours.
Five minutes later, the ref blew the final whistle. The double was ours!! We were over the moon! You could tell how happy we were by the grins on our faces!
When we went to get our medals, we were also rewarded with a shiny shield. It was just brilliant! Jake lifted it over his shoulder and sang our victory song. We are the first Collis team to ever win the double!
