This was a very successful event that certainly captured the imagination! The lines of pennies that wound around and around the playground seemed to go on forever and it was a huge pleasure to see so many creative designs on the strips of cardboard!
The children certainly had a great time running along the lines, trying to find their own cards! The final number of pennies was 45,400, which measured well over half a mile (or very nearly 1 kilometre!). The Collis School Association and Cancer Research UK have therefore received £227 each.
A massive thank you to everyone who made a contribution – every single penny counted towards the grand total. Many thanks also to family, colleagues and friends (I think they are still friends!) who helped me process all the pennies over the course of half-term, and to Mr Peter Durham of Barclays Bank in Teddington, who cashed them in for me.
Well done everyone! – Mrs Sue Plastow
