Year 5 investigating history in the locality

Year 5 visited Hampton Court to investigate Tudor history right on our doorstep.  We learned that Hampton Court was added to over the centuries and it is obvious which parts are Tudor architecture.  Luckily for us, there was a new exhibition called 'The Lost Dress' which was actually worn by Elizabeth I.  We also saw 'The Rainbow Portrait' a famous painting of Elizabeth.  In the Tudor kitchens, we learned about how the servants created banquets to be served in the Great Hall for Henry and his court.  We walked through the haunted gallery where Catherine Howard reportedly cries before being beheaded.  A drama workshop also taught us about the changing personality of Henry and the reasons he married six times.  It was an incredibly informative day and we were so proud of our Year 5 children who really embraced all the day had to offer.
