Collis Sports Premium 2016-2017



In March 2013, the Government launched its P.E. and Sport funding which commenced in September 2013. The funding is focused to achieve the following results:


  • Preserve the Olympic and Paralympic legacy while developing school sport; and
  • Develop an enjoyment of sport and physical activity, while promoting a healthy lifestyle in children from an early age.


The funding is ring fenced and may be spent in the following ways:


  • Hiring specialist P.E. teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching P.E.;
  • Supporting and engaging the least active children through new or additional Change4Life sport clubs;

  • Paying for professional development opportunities in P.E./sport (including providing cover to release teachers);
  • Running sports competitions, or increasing participation in the School Games;
  • Providing places for pupils in after school and holiday sport clubs; and
  • Pooling funding together with other primary schools.

At Collis we strive to effectively use the Sports Grant to raise the profile and outcomes for children in P.E., Sport and physical activity across the school. In order to achieve this we will:


Releasing P.E. Coordinator to work in collaboration with staff in 'Colleague Mentoring Programmes'

To further train and develop our staff. This will involve working together with class teachers developing their practice by modelling lessons, team teaching and joint planning.

Fund P.E. clubs to promote greater uptake and range of activity

To ensure the children are able to participate and to give children the opportunity to experience new and challenging activities.

Involve ourselves in Richmond School Sports Partnership

Taking part in the local secondary cluster training and competitions based at Teddington School.

Purchase P.E. Equipment and kit

Purchase specialist equipment

Run Zumba workshops for Reception

To promote the importance of active lifestyles and to aim to get at least 20% of the children in reception to join a weekly extra-curricular club

Provide additional staffing for competitions

Providing cover for P.E. co-ordinator and other staff so that pupils can take part in inter-school competitions and matches during the school day.

Join sporting organisations

E.G., Youth Sport trust, Schools Tennis Foundation

Providing cover for staff to enable children to participate in inter-school competitions Taking part in a variety of inter-school competitions e.g. Football, Tag-rugby, Cross-country, Indoor Athletics, Cricket and Swimming.




Impact of funding from 2015/2016


  • Collis has been awarded the Sainsbury’s School Games Gold Mark for the second year running.

  • Increased P.E. participation including after school and lunchtime clubs.

  • Increased participation in intra and inter school P.E. competition.

  • Improved P.E. equipment and facilities.

  • Higher level of participation at playtimes including a reduction in playground incidents.

  • More confident and competent staff

  • Enhanced quality of teaching and learning

  • Improved standards

  • Positive attitudes towards health and wellbeing

  • Increased links with local secondary schools.
